Common signs include: unusually slow performance, pop-ups appearing constantly, programs opening or closing by themselves, browser redirecting to strange sites, files missing or encrypted, unknown programs installed, or your antivirus being disabled. If you notice any of these, contact us immediately.
Most virus removal jobs take 1-2 hours. Simple infections may be cleared within the initial 30-minute call-out period. More severe infections (especially ransomware) may require additional time for deep scanning, cleaning, and security hardening. We'll give you a time estimate after initial assessment.
It depends on the ransomware variant. Some older ransomware types have known decryption keys available. For newer variants, recovery from backup is usually the only option. We never recommend paying the ransom. We'll assess your situation and advise on the best path forward.
Key prevention steps include: keeping Windows and software updated, not clicking suspicious links or email attachments, using strong unique passwords with two-factor authentication, having reliable backups, and using Windows Defender (which is now excellent). We can set all this up for you during or after the cleanup.
